* Getting Down Alive!
Developed from over 20 years of roof construction and fire ground expertise, this class delivers an eye opening experience and provides invaluable information to first responders, allowing them to be better equipped to handle the dangerous assignment of roof ventilation.
Captain Daniel Waldrep has been a member of the Delray Beach Fire Department since 2002. He quickly committed himself to becoming a member of the Special Operations Team, receiving certifications such as Hazardous Materials Technician, Dive Rescue Specialist, Confined Space Technician, Rope Technician and Building Collapse/Shoring Technician. After his promotion to Captain in 2012, he spent 3 years in the Training Division conducting countless classroom and hands on training drills, including multiple roof operations classes on acquired structures. He is currently the Captain of Delray Beach Fire Department E112.
Before joining the Fire Service, Captain Waldrep began working at his family's roofing company at the age of 16. His grandfather started the company in 1956 in South Florida where it continues to operate today. During that time, Captain Waldrep learned the basics of roof construction, how roof covering is assembled and disassembled, identification of the safest areas to set up ladders and locating the safest paths to maneuver. Later in his career, after returning to shift from his assignment in the Training Division, Captain Waldrep received his roofing contractor license and started a small roof repair company, employing firefighters who help him train today.
The specialized knowledge Captain Waldrep has gained in both roofing and firefighting has led to the development of "Getting Down Alive". Over many years in both fields, he has walked and operated on more roofs than most people in a lifetime. Captain Waldrep feels he has so much information to pass along to the Fire Service and is excited to bring a new, innovative, and much needed training to first responders across the county.
